Title: CLS3-2005-2006 School Improvement Plans

Recommendation:

I recommend that the School Board approve the School Improvement Plans submitted for the 2005-2006 school year.

Description:

In accordance with Florida statutes, the 2005-2006 School Improvement Plans:

  • have been developed based on a needs assessment that reflects current student achievement data from multiple data sources;
  • include objectives and strategies that are focused on reading, writing, and mathematics achievement targets as specified by the No Child Left Behind Adequate Yearly Progress (NCLB AYP) report per subgroup and graduation rate per subgroup (when applicable);
  • include an objective for science and an objective related to student health and fitness, parental information on student health and fitness, and indoor environmental air quality;
  • include professional development aligned with the objectives;
  • address training, instructional materials, technology, staffing, student support services, school safety, discipline, and other matters of resource allocation; and
  • have been developed and approved by the School Advisory Council at each school.

The plans of Title I schools also address the Title I ten components.

School Improvement funds will be used primarily for professional development and procurement of instructional materials.

The submission of the 2005-2006 School Improvement Plans was delayed this year due to a hardware failure on the Florida Department of Education (FDOE) server, which houses all District school improvement plans.  The FDOE School Improvement Plan template was unavailable to schools from mid October to December 22, 2005.

The FDOE extended their deadline for the submission of school improvement plans until February 4, 2006.  District schools have complied with this deadline.

The 2005-2006 School Improvement Plans are available for your review on the District web site at http://www.palmbeach.k12.fl.us/SchoolImprovement/06_sip/sips_06.htm.

Financial Impact:
School Improvement initiatives are supported through state lottery funds. The FY2006 School Improvement Fund allocation of $10 per student is approximately $1.7 million.
