Title: AC-6 Florida Work Experience Program Agreement with FAU

Recommendation:

I recommend that the School Board approve the Florida Work Experience Program Agreement with Florida Atlantic University effective July 18, 2005 through June 30, 2010.

Description:

This renewal of the Florida Atlantic University Florida Work Experience Program Agreement is a long-standing Agreement between Florida Atlantic University (FAU) and the School District of Palm Beach County.  The Agreement stipulates the following:

• University students will continue to have the opportunity to be approved for part-time employment through the School District of Palm Beach County, thereby allowing them to work at School-Age Child Care (SACC) programs district wide. 
• The SACC budget (generated by SACC registration fees) will serve as the funding source for salaries that will be reimbursed by FAU.  The SACC budget will the pay the employer portion of the payroll taxes only.
• SACC directors at elementary schools will serve as the liaisons between FAU and the individual schools centers, and will work with the school principals to employ the University students.
• Program success will be determined by reduced waiting lists in the SACC programs and increased work experience opportunities for potential teachers, as demonstrated by the number of University students hired.

Financial Impact:

The financial impact to SACC programs will be cost of paying the payroll taxes for the salaries of the FAU students employed by SACC.  There is no financial impact to the District Operating Budget.
