Title: PM2 Educational Specification for Elementary 03-Y

Recommendation:

I recommend the School Board approve the Educational Specification for the new Elementary School 03-Y and authorize the Chairman and Superintendent to execute all related contract documents.

Description:

  1. The construction of Elementary 03-Y is scheduled to commence in 2007 and be completed by 2008 according to the Board adopted FY 2006-2010 Five Year Plan.

  1. On January 25, 2006, the School Board approved the Cooperative Agreement between Florida Atlantic University Board of Trustees and the Florida Atlantic University Foundation, Inc. for the mutual use of the facilities in connection with Elementary 03-Y.

  1. In conjunction with the Cooperative Agreement, School District staff worked with the staff from the Florida Atlantic University Board of Trustees and the Florida Atlantic Foundation, Inc. to create the Educational Specification for the new Pine Jog Environmental Education Center, approximately 15,000 gross square feet in size.

  1. The Educational Specification for Elementary 03-Y is consistent with the CSR facility lists and CSR generic educational specifications approved by the Board on October 19, 2005.

  1. The “CSR” FISH Capacity” of this school design will be 1,000 and the “Program Capacity” of this school design will be for 960 students.  The use of the “Program Capacity” for the construction of the school is consistent with the Charter School District Waiver granted by the Florida Board of Education on January 21, 2003.

  1. Based upon the surrounding schools, the Educational Specification includes ten (10) additional Resource Rooms for program needs for the anticipated population of the school.

  1. The Educational Specification reflects the use of grade level grouping to enable implementation of the “school-within-a-school” concepts.

  1. The Educational Specification was reviewed and approved by the area superintendent.

Financial Impact:

Financial impact will be determined when construction contract is negotiated.
