Title: CL1 Bak MSOA’S Field Trip To Vancouver, British Columbia Recommendation:
Recommend that the School Board approve an educational trip for Bak Middle School of the Arts 7th and 8th Grade Vocal Students to travel to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada from April 27, 2005 until May 1, 2005 to perform at an International Instrumental and Vocal Festival and Competition through Heritage Festivals.
Description: The group of 100 students (70 girls and 30 boys) will be chaperoned by two school board employees and 12 adult chaperones. A representative of Heritage Festivals will also accompany the group throughout the visit. The trip will provide the students with the opportunity to perform, compete and experience the culture of Canada. The purpose of the trip is:
- To have the students perform at an International Instrumental and Vocal Festival and Competition. Bands, Orchestras and Choruses from the United States and Canada have the opportunity to perform at this Festival.
- To have the Bak MSOA 7th and 8th Grade Choruses (Boys, Girls and Mixed) perform for top international adjudicators.
- To receive constructive written and taped comments to promote musical growth for the students and director.
- To have students sing and receive on-stage critiques at the mini-clinic session.
- For the students to experience the social, musical and cultural aspects of a beautiful Canadian city.
The cost of the trip is $1100.00 per participant, which includes all travel costs, meals except for lunches, accommodations and tour fees. The students are able to raise funds for the trip through fundraisers (cheesecake sale, silent auction/benefit concert), business sponsors and donations. Every effort is made to assure that all eligible students have the opportunity to participate regardless of economic hardship.

- The knowledge and appreciation gained by the Bak students from performing with other students from across the United States and Canada
- Representation of the high quality of programs offered by Palm Beach County Schools, and of the high level of academic and talented students
