4 Research has repeatedly shown that shortening the time between the onset of ventricular fibrillation and defibrillation increases the survival of victims. AEDs have made public access defibrillation possible with the devices allowing trained lay people to safely and effectively defibrillate the victim of ventricular fibrillation.
4 The School District has recognized the importance of acquiring these life saving devices and has purchased AEDs for every school opened as of August 2004. The District has also committed to providing one additional unit for every school that opens after August 2004.
4 Tenet Healthcare Foundation has provided $25,000 in grant funds for the purchase of additional AEDs at the schools within close proximity to its hospitals. These hospitals and schools include:
o St. Mary’s Hospital: Palm Beach Lakes High, J.F.K. Middle, West Riviera Elementary, Northmore Elementary and Northboro Elementary.
o Good Samaritan Hospital: Roosevelt Middle, Roosevelt Elementary and Pleasant City Elementary.
o Palm Beach Gardens Hospital: Palm Beach Gardens High, W.T. Dwyer High, W. B. Duncan Middle, Allamanda Elementary and D. D. Eisenhower Elementary.
