The School District of Palm Beach County, Florida - Nutrition Standards/Promotion
Celebrating 10 Years Of Wellness
Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Program
Nutrition Standards/Promotion – National School Lunch Program
The School District of Palm Beach County had the opportunity for fourteen elementary schools (Barton Elementary, Belle Glade Elementary, Egret Lake Elementary, Gove Elementary, Hope Centennial Elementary, Liberty Park Elementary, Pahokee Elementary, Palmetto Elementary, Pine Grove Elementary, Pioneer Park Elementary, Rolling Green Elementary, Rosenwald Elementary, South Grade Elementary, and West Gate Elementary) to participate in the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP) during the 2015-2016 school year and help create healthier school environments by providing healthier food choices. The goal of the program is to improve the children in our district overall diet and create healthier eating habits to impact their present and future health. The FFVP positively impact the diet of the children in our district by exposing them to a variety of fruits and vegetables, increasing their fruit and vegetable consumption, and making a difference in their present and future health.
Each participating elementary school is eligible to receive $50.00 per student for the entire school year. These funds are pre-determined by the State and are to be used when purchasing the fresh fruit or vegetable snack. The snack must be served outside of the normal time frames for the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and the School Breakfast Program (SBP).
Through the tireless efforts of the principals, teachers, administrators and staff approximately 937,000 nutritious snacks were served in the 2015-2016 school year.
The Goal of FFVP is to:
Create healthier school environments by providing healthier food choices.
Expand the variety of fruits and vegetables children experience.
Increase children's fruit and vegetable consumption.
Make a difference in children's diets to impact their present and future health.
