  • Continued aggressive recycling of returned parts, and materials from shipping of new/replacement equipment. We have maintained recycling 75% of materials such as pallets and crate boards, and cardboard left over from the shipping of our new and replacement equipment. We continue to bring back old parts, water filters, and refrigerant containers used in the maintenance and repair of the equipment in the cafeteria kitchens. These items are then prepared and sent to be recycled.
  • We are piloting the use of the mini express vans to reduce fuel usage while still providing capability of delivering the food for students to satellite sites. These vehicles are the Ford Transit and Dodge Pro Master express. The Ford Transits have proven to provide significantly increased fuel mileage. We did not receive the Dodge vehicle in enough time to establish the data to evaluate its performance. We will continue to monitor and compare performance data in FY17.
  • Our recycling of scrap metals has suffered with the sharp decline in the market for metals. We hit a bottom of $0.01 per hundred pounds for steel, $0.19 per pound of stainless steel, $0.29 per pound for aluminum. Despite holding the materials for the higher prices and then taking the material in to recycle we received a little less than half of what our typical annual revenue is from the sale of recyclable metals $2,180.89.
  • The reuse of parts salvaged from equipment and of other items such as shelving, equipment and dunnage reused from schools receiving upgrades in equipment resulted in a savings of $42,560 in the purchase of these items.
