TITLE:       EH/SED BEHAVIORAL INTERVENTIONIST ASSOCIATE

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

1.        High school diploma or equivalent and sixty (60) semester hours of college.

2.        Successful experience working with juveniles.

3.        Successful participation in training programs offered to increase the individual’s skill and proficiency related to working with EH/SED students, including conflict resolution and crisis management techniques as approved by the Department of Exceptional Student Education (e.g., Professional Crisis Management).

4.        Ability to be receptive to supervision and to work harmoniously with EH/SED students.

5.        Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups and effectively communicate, both orally and in writing.

6.        Knowledge of current computing technologies and software applications appropriate to the position’s job responsibilities.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential Functions:

1.        Monitors and supervises EH/SED exclusion, non-exclusion, and isolation time-out area(s) under the direction of a teacher or administrator.

2.        Provides crisis intervention as needed; both physical and non-physical.

3.        Monitors, supervises, and maintains discipline and orderliness of EH/SED students during breakfast and lunch periods

4.        Collects behavioral data for the use of Functional Behavior Assessments.

5.        Assists in the implementation of individual Behavior Intervention Plans.

6.        Implements crisis prevention, crisis de-escalation, crisis intervention procedures, and post-crisis strategies for EH/SED students.

7.        Attends EH/SED department meetings as requested.

8.        Develops rapport with EH/SED students.

9.        Confers with school bus drivers and attendants regarding student behavior and serves as a liaison between school bus drivers/attendants and teachers.

10.      Supervises and monitors EH/SED students when buses are loading and unloading.

11.      Investigates incidents of negative conduct of EH/SED students occurring on school property. Coordinates investigative and prevention efforts with the Principal and other agencies, as appropriate, to maximize prevention and cessation of illegal and destructive activities.

12.      Advises the Principal of possible illegal and undesirable activities.

13.      Maintains confidentiality and professionalism regarding school affairs.

14.      Observes established school philosophy, policies and regulations.

 

Performance Effectiveness Criteria:

In addition to the employee being responsible for each of the performance responsibilities listed herein, periodic and special reports to the Board and other entities will be provided regarding the impact of this position with respect to progress toward annually established District and department goals and objectives for, but not necessarily limited to, the following areas: 1) Student Performance, 2) Customer Service, 3) Fiscal Accountability and Responsibility, 4) Process Efficiencies and Improvements, and 5) Employee Learning and Growth.

Physical Abilities:

Effective October 5, 2015, all persons new, rehired, or transferred to this job classification must successfully complete the Physical Demands Testing requirement. Persons must be capable of frequently lifting/ carrying/ pushing/ pulling up to 20 lbs; occasionally up to 60 lbs; as part of a team up to 100 lbs; heavy physical activity required.
