TITLE:           TECHNICIAN – MECHANICAL SENIOR

 

QUALIFICATIONS:              

1.        High school diploma or recognized equivalent. Vocational certification or Licensed Journeyman.

2.        Minimum seven (7) years of skilled experience in one (1) or more of the following skilled trades for mechanical systems: plumbing; heating/ventilation/air conditioning/refrigeration (HVACR); commercial/ industrial appliance installation and maintenance

3.        Two (2) years of experience in a leadership or supervisory capacity.

4.        Ability to identify safety-sensitive / emergency maintenance requests received from school or facilities staff and properly prioritize requests in the context of existing work orders and schedule.

5.        Knowledge of environmental regulations, building code requirements for educational facilities, life safety codes, and other regulatory codes and standards applicable to the work.

6.        Ability to work from manufacturer specifications, blueprints, technical drawings, diagrams, schematics and other documentation applicable to the trade(s).

7.        Ability to work independently as well as within a team structure.

8.        Ability to serve on-call to provide technical assistance as necessary.

9.        Ability to work with diverse groups, and effectively communicate, both orally and in writing.

10.      Knowledge of industry safety standards and hazard control measures when working on or near electrically energized equipment and/or devices.

11.      Demonstrated knowledge and skills in mediation and conflict resolution.

12.      Knowledge of current computing technologies and software applications appropriate to the position’s responsibilities.

13.      Valid State of Florida driver’s license.

14.      Trained in arc flash (levels 1-4) in hazard identification and risk assessment.

15.      HVAC Universal Certification required when assigned to HVAC or appliance trade. When assigned to plumbing, Backflow Prevention and Assembly Repair Certification.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential Functions:

1.        Provides project leadership for assigned work crew(s) from initial planning and execution to project close; serves as point of contact/key coordinator for any change orders or issues that may arise.

2.        Works collaboratively with area teams and major projects to resolve technical issues concerning mechanical systems and to develop efficient and effective preventive maintenance programs.

3.        Works collaboratively with energy management to identify and implement greater efficiencies in mechanical operations and in cost reduction initiatives.

4.        Develops programs to assess the condition of mechanical systems so elements can be prioritized for funding.

5.        Reviews architectural drawings and tests, inspects, evaluates, and troubleshoots mechanical systems and components for quality, maintainability and sustainability.

6.        Participates in the design phase to ensure maintenance concerns are included in plans and technical specifications.

7.        Develops bid specifications and requests for proposals for preventive maintenance programs, major mechanical systems repairs, and system certifications.

8.        Writes technical specifications for bids; makes recommendations to contract mechanical work.

9.        Coordinates warranty items between area teams and the department / division.

10.      Coordinates, supervises, and participates in the work of an assigned crew engaged in installation, repair and maintenance on mechanical systems, equipment, devices and components ranging from large commercial systems to small mechanical units.

11.      Provides leadership and guidance to less experienced/knowledgeable team members in the more complex aspects of the work.

12.      Schedules and accompanies vendors onsite; oversees and monitors the work of vendors as directed.

13.      Performs estimates for labor and materials required for assigned projects / work order requests.

14.      Reads and interprets manufacturer specifications, blueprints, schematics, diagrams, technical drawings and other related documentation applicable to the assigned trade areas.

15.      Participates in periodic and required training initiatives in adherence to departmental standards, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) laws and regulations, and other industry and regulatory standards governing workplace safety practices and procedures (e.g., lockout tagout, arc flash).

16.      Ensures hand tools, diagnostic tools and equipment, project materials, and assigned vehicles are properly inventoried, maintained and serviced.

17.      Maintains appropriate logs, records and documentation regarding assigned tasks/projects; prepares materials for work orders utilizing department technology and software applications.

18.      Provides mediation and conflict resolution to resolve employee issues in compliance with District policy and collective bargaining agreements.

19.      Provides input to supervisor regarding employee performance evaluations.

20.      Maintains current knowledge of industry trends and technology developments for application to trade areas of assignment.

In addition to the employee being responsible for each of the performance responsibilities listed herein, annual progress will be assessed with respect to support and achievement of the District Strategic Plan and associated applicable scorecards.
