Summer Food Service
Research additional way to reach students during the summer months - 2 of 5 years
The Professional Development Team developed a plan to reach out to the Palm Beach County Libraries to determine if there was any interest in having the Summer Food Service program hosted at their facilities.?? We originally hoped to expand to two more libraries however, the interest was vast and we ended up increasing our library sites by seven additional locations.?? We worked with the School Based Operations to meet with each library manager and determine which school would be the base school for the summer program.?? Each site agreed to provide lunch and snack.?? Seven Palm Beach County Libraries opened the following branches for Summer Food Service from 6/6/17 to 7/28/2017 Acreage, Wellington, Jupiter, Greenacres, Main Library on Summit, Lantana Road and Belle Glade. The Director for the P. B. County Library System said he received "Positive Feedback" for all seven branches! After a successful pilot the WPB-Mandel Library opened for its second year of operation. ??For the 7 additional libraries we served 15,100 lunches and 19,333 snacks. The total of all the meals served at all locations was 802,326.
Additionally, School Food Service decided to create our own branding for our Summer Food Service Program.?? We created the logo ???Ignite with Summer Meals It???s Free??? to align with our overarching theme of "Energize With School Meals" and designed 24???X36??? outdoor signs for all sites.
