Palm Beach County Council of PTA/PTSA

The Palm Beach County Council of PTA/PTSA is a member of the largest advocacy group for children in the nation. The council supports PTA units at schools throughout Palm Beach County and currently has over 16,000 parent, teacher, student, and community members. The Council is governed by approved bylaws designed to meet specific objectives. The Council will interpret, promote and support the basic policies of the State and National PTA. As such it is a 501(c)(3) organization.

The Palm Beach County Council of PTA/PTSA provides relevant training and resources to assist with the success of the local units. Council meetings are used to promote advocacy for all children within Palm Beach County. The Council provides a forum for public information that can stimulate action for current issues that relate to children.

Promoting Health and Wellness in Palm Beach County

In 2010-2011 school year, PTA hosted a 5K walk at FAU and held a Health and Wellness Day with Whole Foods. More than 12,500 students benefited from the 18 grants received that totaled more than $6,000.

During the 2011-2012 school year the PTA educated families on topics such as Childhood Obesity, Bullying, Cyber Bullying, and Mental Health. The PTA joined The School District of Palm Beach County’s Wellness Promotion Task Force and held three events promoting Health and Wellness. More than 50,000 students benefited from the various programs and events.

Eagles Landing Middle School PTSA hosted:
  • default_titleA literacy program that would expand into the health of the family unit with a scavenger hunt which included physical challenges incorporated into a family literacy night
  • default_titleOutdoor Learning Center for use by all students that incorporated a de-escalation labyrinth that allows the ESE population a natural area to calm down as opposed to physical restraint for outbursts
  • default_titleMade concerted effort to reduce the number of radiation lead containing CRT monitors. Entered into a joint green project with NASA to remove all of them and replace them with flat screen LCD monitors that would reduce the radiation and lead exposure to the students
  • default_titleParticipated in creating a healthier school by Going Green. Implemented numerous programs in an effort to reduce the carbon footprint while encouraging healthier living for all students. Received the “Green School of Promise” for the PTSA's efforts.
  • default_titleIn addition to changing the environment for the students, healthy snacks were provided for staff at all PDD and teacher work days to encourage healthy eating among our teachers as well.

Sandpiper Shores Elementary PTA hosted:
  • default_titleInternational Walk Your Child to School Day.
  • default_titleJump Rope for Heart - All students participated during PE rotation. In addition to physical activities, they learn the importance of heart health. Parent volunteers assisted during the program.
  • default_titleAutism Speaks fundraiser and Walk - raised more than $3,000 and school team participated in the walk.

  • default_titleCo-sponsored PBCC PTA Family Fitness Day
  • default_title“Don’t Stress the Test!” Day program and evening family event to learn how to de-stress in preparation for FCAT testing.

  • default_titleSchool-wide Field Day - fun day outdoors to celebrate end of school year! Obstacle course, tug-of-war, martial arts demo and more!

Sunrise Park Elementary PTA hosted:
  • default_titleThe First Annual Family Fun Run was held in South County Regional Park. This was a 5K Fun Run / 5K Walk followed by a day in the park. The event focused on health and exercise with a fitness class by Evolution Fitness, a rock climbing wall and many other fun activities. It was a huge success and is already being planned for the 2012-2013 school year.
