Nutrition Standards/Promotion – National School Lunch Program

The School District of Palm Beach County had the opportunity for thirteen elementary schools (Barton Elementary, Belle Glade Elementary, Gove Elementary, Hope Centennial Elementary, Pahokee Elementary, Palmetto Elementary, Pine Grove Elementary, Pioneer Park Elementary, Rolling Green Elementary, Rosenwald Elementary, South Grade Elementary, West Gate Elementary and West Riviera Elementary) to participate in the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP) during the 2014-2015 school year. The goal of the program is to positively impact the diet of the children in our district by exposing them to a variety of fruits and vegetables – and making a difference in their present and future health.

Each participating elementary school is eligible to receive $50.00 per student for the entire school year. These funds are pre-determined by the State and are to be used when purchasing the fresh fruit or vegetable snack. The snack must be served outside of the normal time frames for the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and the School Breakfast Program (SBP).

Through the tireless efforts of the principals, teachers, administrators and staff approximately 875,000 nutritious snacks were served in the 2014-2015 school year.

The Goal of FFVP is to:
