• Halo / Horn Effect: Interviewer allows one strong point to overshadow all others, either
                   positively or negatively.

               • Similar to Me: Interviewer focuses on non-job factors that are common between the hiring
                   manager and applicant.

               • Negative Emphasis: Applicant is rejected based on a small or irrelevant negative information.

               THE JOB OFFER

When a selection has been made, there are still some items that must be considered. In a
decentralized organization, background and reference checks have not been made. Hiring
managers should specifically state that all job offers are contingent until references,
certification, background checks, medical screening, and New Employee Orientation are
completed. The offer may be withdrawn prior to completion of these requirements.

               HUMAN RESOURCES ROLE

We are here to support and advise our school and department leaders. To some, this may
be common knowledge, but as we move forward, new principals and directors may find this
information valuable as they build an effective team of personnel and assist future leaders
with professional development. A strong working relationship between schools, departments,
and the District is key to our success and beneficial for our students.
