School District of Palm Beach County employees, who wish to conduct research in the District, may NOT use the Educational Data Warehouse (EDW) for research purposes as there is NO RIGHT TO ACCESS (see Board Policy 2.142, section 4.c. - d.)

 
 

Prohibited Schools

Research is not permitted in some of our schools. The list of Prohibited Research Schools (updated July 15, 2014) may be downloaded from this link: List of Research Prohibited Schools

If you are a School District of Palm Beach County teacher or administrator who wishes to conduct research at a Research Prohibited School, please contact the Department of Research and Evaluation for additional information.

Be aware as well that approval of any research study must also consider the status of schools with multiple and/or intensive research studies already in place. Schools with such status may also be excluded from research considerations. This status changes throughout the year as research studies are completed and other research studies are approved. Please contact the Department of Research and Evaluation at (561) 434-8850 for information on the status of schools for your study before submitting an application.

Research Approval Timeline:

Completed application must include the following: three copies of research proposal/ instruments and Affidavit of Good Moral Character, and one-page letter describing tasks principals or teachers may be required to complete for your research.

Researchers should submit completed application as early as possible to ensure the application is approved before your research deadline. Notification will be mailed with decision. The Department of Research and Evaluation's schedule is driven by District priorities which may deviate the research review schedule.

Application Fees:

As stated in Board Policy 2.142, the Department of Research, Evaluation, and Assessment shall charge a one-time application fee for the review, processing, specification of research parameters and monitoring of research proposals. All fees shall be paid, or satisfactory arrangements made for the payment of fees, prior to the processing of the research application. Make check or money order out to:
School District of Palm Beach County.

  • No application fee is required for District employees conducting research as a requirement for a Master's or Doctoral degree.
  • $50.00 for graduate students who are working on their Master's or Doctoral degrees, but are not District employees;
  • $150.00 for organizations, universities, professors, or researchers.
In addition, the Department of Research, Evaluation, and Assessment may establish reasonable fees to charge Researchers for the production, the compilation, or extraction of data for research purposes. Such fees imposed by the Department of Research, Evaluation, and Assessment shall be consistent with Florida Public Records Laws.
