Title: CL3 2005 Florida Migrant Parent Advisory Council Grant

Recommendation:
I recommend that the School Board approve the application for the 2005 Florida Migrant Parent Advisory Council (FMPAC) Project to the Florida Department of Education (FDOE) in the amount of $50,000 to become effective April 21, 2005 to August 31, 2005, and authorize the Superintendent or designee to sign all documents and contracts related to the grant which are required for implementation of the grant's activities.

Description:

This grant, pending School Board approval, will allow the Palm Beach County School District's Migrant Education Program to fund targeted training to FMPAC students.  The training, provided by FDOE, will focus on family literacy, awareness of academic trends, school demographics, peer pressure, and developing strong study habits.  Parents will also receive hands on training opportunities to develop leadership skills that will strengthen their ability to return to their communities and motivate other parents to get actively involved in the academic success of their children

Specifically, the grant provides funding to develop revised FMPAC By-Laws and the facilitation and documentation of the required statewide trainings for migrant parents.

Financial Impact:
The financial impact to the Special Revenue Funds - Other Budget is an increase of $50,000 for the Florida Migrant Parent Advisory Council parent trainings.  These funds will be placed in the Department of Multicultural Education's budget for Migrant Education Programs.  All grant related expenditures and contracts are authorized for payment up to the amount of revenue.
