Title: AC6 Contract with the Drug Abuse Treatment Association (DATA)

Recommendation:
I recommend that the School Board approve the contract with the Drug Abuse Treatment Association (DATA) that authorizes the acceptance of funds from DATA to provide additional funds to support the summer session/extended school year educational program at the DATA from June 2, 2005, through July 28, 2005.

Description:

This residential Drug Abuse Treatment Association (DATA) provides educational services for up to twenty (20) disciplinary and truant male and female youths between the ages of 13 and 17.

The goal of these additional educational services is to provide a remedial instruction program and opportunity for credit award.

This is the third year for offering the summer school/extended school year opportunity to "at risk" students at this facility. Last summer, thirteen (13) high school students were able to receive 1.5 additional credits toward graduation and five (5) middle school students took classes that enabled them to meet pupil progression standards for promotion to the next grade level.

The DATA will provide to the School District a lump sum of approximately $9,233 for the funding of one (1) teacher, one (1) para professional and supplies for Monday through Friday in June and for four (4) Fridays in July, plus a .5 administrator for June and July.

The School District will provide the funding for one (1) teacher, one (1) para professional and supplies for Monday through Thursday in July.

Financial Impact:
The financial impact to the General Fund Budget is an increase of approximately $9,233 from DATA.  The funds will be allocated to the DATA school budget.
