>Highland Elementary will implement Project CHILD as a choice option. This option will be made available to parents regardless of AYP status.
>The funds will provide for the purchase of a primary Project CHILD cluster to include:
all appropriate CHILD materials
correlated software
station activities
training for three cluster teachers and an additional teacher to accommodate the ESOL population in the primary grades
on-site coaching
follow-up training (2)
>The school will pay for additional training (when necessary), conference registrations and travel expenses. The school will pay for the annual cluster upgrade for Project CHILD for years two and three. The cluster upgrade will include classroom materials and software upgrade ($1,425 per cluster). These costs will be funded through Internal Accounts or Title 1.
>The academic focus is on reading, writing and mathematics. Cluster teachers will work in a team to ensure that students know and are able to do what is required by the Sunshine Standards in the areas of science and social studies.
>Students loop with teachers within the cluster. Looping provides academic stability and acceleration for the students as well as student familiarity for the teachers.
>Students are evaluated utilizing the District K-3 Assessment, Scholastic Reading Inventory (SRI), Pearson Learning System (grades 1 and 2), Waterford Learning System (K) and Riverdeep.
>The Highland Elementary School faculty and School Advisory Council have approved implementation of Project CHILD.
