Title: CS1 Charter for Montessori Academy of Early Enrichment, Inc.

Recommendation:
I recommend that the School Board approve the Charter for Montessori Academy of Early Enrichment, Inc. effective May 20, 2005, through June 30, 2008.

Description:

Section 1002.33, F.S., authorizes Charter Schools as part of the state's program of public education.

The mission of Montessori Academy of Early Enrichment, Inc. will be to provide students and parents with the highest level of education with curriculum and instruction which follows the Association Montessori International (AMI) philosophy.  Parents will be provided with an opportunity to select a school for their students which offers programming outside the traditional educational setting.  Parents will be offered an alternative option suited to the needs of the child.  This alternative educational approach also offers students access to well-trained professionals with knowledge of the Montessori approach as well as background in speech, language, and learning.  A full-time ESE teacher and a Speech and Language pathologist will work together, along with staff, to give students this outstanding learning opportunity.

The school will serve approximately sixty-five (65) Exceptional Education Students of  Pre-K age (3-7) during its first year of operation.

The Palm Beach County School Board approved the original application for Montessori Academy of Early Enrichment, Inc. on January 19, 2005.

Pursuant to Section 1002.33, F.S.,  the terms and conditions for the operation of the Charter School shall be set forth by the District and the applicant in a written contractual agreement, called a Charter. The Charter for Montessori Academy of Early Enrichment, Inc. has been reviewed and approved by the appropriate District departments and the Governing Board of the Charter School.

Due to the large number of pages, a copy of the Charter is on file in the Board Minutes Office for review.

Financial Impact:
Each Charter School will receive 95% of the funded FTE generated by up to 500 students. The District will retain 5% of the FTE, up to 500 students, as per Florida Statute.
