Ø L.C. Swain Middle School
If Greenacres had a royal family their name would be Swain. Lawrence Carter Swain, known as L.C. and his son, Ernest Carter Swain, founded the city in 1926. Lawrence Carter Swain was the “first Family.” The name Greenacres was chosen by Mr. Swain and his office staff.
Ø Ponce De Leon Middle School
Ponce DeLeon was a Spanish explorer who is credited with discovering Florida in 1513. It is widely believed that he sailed into Jupiter Inlet during his first exploration of Florida. At that time he named Florida La Floridia.
Ø Greenacres Middle School
The name “Greenacres City” was chosen by Lawrence Carter Swain in 1926. The school resides within the city limits. In the 1980’s, it was the largest and fastest growing municipality in central Palm Beach County. The goal of the city has been to keep the city-“A Good Place To Live.”
The selection committee was composed of nine community representatives. This group included 4 community representatives, 2 student representatives, 1 parent representative and 2 administrators.
