Naming of Schools - No Division Assigned

Title: CONSIDER NAMING OF ELEMENTARY SCHOOL “03-V,” LAKE WORTH, FLORIDA

Recommendation:

I recommend that the School Board select a name for Elementary School “03-V” in Lake Worth from the list of submitted recommendations by selection committee in order of preference.

Description:

Ø      Hidden Oaks Elementary School

In building 03V, the Native Oak Trees were preserved.  The school currently sits back or is “hidden” from the road, hence the suggestion; Hidden Oaks Elementary School.

Ø      United Elementary School

As we bring students, teachers and families together from many diverse backgrounds and communities, we are “united” as one in our new school.

Ø      Weaver Oaks Elementary

Marcus A. Weaver was an early dairy farmer in Western Boynton Beach.  He was Mayor of Boynton Beach.  He served for many years on the Board of Supervisors of the Lake Worth Drainage District.  The Cypress Creek Country Club, Housing Community and new YMCA at the northeast corner of Old Boynton Road and Military Trail sit on his former dairy farm.

The selection committee was composed of fifteen community representatives. This group included 1 community representative, 4 student representatives, 8 parent representatives, 1 staff representative and 1 administrator.

Financial Impact:

There is no financial impact to the School District.
