Title: G13 Tech Prep Federal Entitlement Grant

Recommendation:
I recommend that the School Board approve the renewal of the Federal Entitlement Grant Application for Tech Prep, through the Florida Department of Education, in the amount $245,315, effective July 1, 2005 through June 30, 2006, and authorize the Superintendent or designees to sign all documents and contracts related to the grant which are required for implementation of the grant activities.

Description:

The Federal Entitlement Grant is in accordance with the Florida State Plan for Vocational and Federal Regulations that implement the Carl D. Perkins Vocational and Technical Education Act of 1998 (Public Law 105-332)

During the 2004-2005 school year, Tech Prep funds were used for Tech Prep Career Contact stipends, career development curriculum, supplies and materials, staff development, and a site license agreement for Bridges career development software with Internet access for  students, parents, and staff.  Each high school was provided with these resources.  In addition, the grant provided two Tech Prep resource teachers.

During the 2005-2006 school year, Tech Prep Entitlement Grant funds will provide:

1. Two Resource Teachers to implement Tech Prep and Career Development activities
2. Part-time-in-system teachers to assist with curriculum writing and student worksite placements
3. Stipends, resources, and materials for Tech Prep Career Contacts at each high school
4. Professional development for the Tech Prep Career Contacts
5. A Bridges career development software site license and professional development for secondary schools
6. Resources and materials to facilitate the development and continuation of Tech Prep pathways and articulation agreements to post-secondary institutions
7. Marketing materials focused on promoting the benefits of being in a Tech Prep pathway for students, parents, and school district staff

The Tech Prep Grant will be evaluated based on the goals established within the parameters of the grant including number of qualified participating students, the number of post-secondary transitioning students, and the number of articulation agreements.

Financial Impact:
The financial impact to the FY 2006 Special Revenue-Other Funds budget is an increase of $245,315. The funds will be allocated to Secondary and Career Education Department budget.
