Title: G3 Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) Discretionary Grant Recommendation:
I recommend that the School Board approve the continuation of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Discretionary Supplement Funds Grant in the amount of $357,807, to be submitted to the State of Florida, Department of Education (DOE), and authorize the Superintendent or designee to sign all documents and contracts related to the grant which are required for implementation of the grant activities. The effective dates are July 1, 2005 through August 31, 2006.
Description: The purpose of this grant is to implement statewide initiatives relative to the education of students with disabilities, in compliance with the mandates of IDEA, Part B.
The grant will support services to disabled students in the following grant required areas:
Access to reading, content knowledge, and the general education curriculum through the use of instructional materials, technology and training.
Assessment (FCAT and Alternate)
Parent education and collaboration
Transition activities that support transition services for students with disabilities
Any additional activities as required in the grant application
It is expected that the use of funds from these grants will lead to improved student achievement as measured by the statewide assessment programs.
Financial Impact:
Pending State approval, the financial impact to the Special Revenue-Other Funds budget will be an increase of $357,807. These funds will be allocated within the Exceptional Student Education Department budget.
