Title: AC2 COOPERATIVE AGREEMENT WITH THE EDUCATION RESOURCE CENTER

Recommendation:
I recommend that the Palm Beach County School Board approve renewal of the cooperative agreement with Communities In Schools, Junior Achievement, Palm Beach Community College, Palm Beach Community College Foundation and the Simon Youth Foundation to continue operation of the Education Resource Center at the Palm Beach Mall from July 1, 2005 through June 30, 2006.

Description:

This is the eighth annual cooperative agreement regarding the Education Resource Center at the Palm Beach Mall.  The program will provide educational services for up to sixty (60) high school students in grades 10-12.  This is a School of Choice and students must  meet district eligibility criteria along with a successful interview for placement. The design of the program is high school completion with pre-employability and vocational skills in retailing and customer relations. This competency based program will evaluate students using the SRI reading, Star math and FCAT tests.

Communities In Schools will provide business intern/mentor coordination.  Junior Achievement will provide volunteer business resource personnel for business activities.  The Simon Youth Foundation will provide funding for the lease of approximately 4,000 square feet of space at the Mall Education Resource Center estimated at $65,000.00. The financial impact to the school district includes the instructional staff and materials needed to provide the educational program.

Financial Impact:
The financial impact to the General Fund Budget is approximately $207,107.  The source of funds is FTE Revenue and Supplemental Academic Instruction (SAI) Categorical funding.
