Title: G7 Mary and Robert Pew Public Education Fund Grant Recommendation:
I recommend that the School Board approve the Mary and Robert Pew Public Education Fund Grant for Belle Glade Elementary School in the amount of $60,000 effective July 30, 2005 through June 30, 2007, and authorize the Superintendent or designee to sign all related documents and contracts which are required for implementation of the grant activities.
Description: The grant will be assigned to Belle Glade Elementary in the amount of $60,000.
- Will support the Increase of Science Knowledge through Literacy: A Standard Approach to Science Integration in Grades Kindergarten and First.
- Funds will be used to purchase instructional materials and equipment in an initiative to increase student achievement through the use of hands on science content and experiential learning.
- Two year period, effective July 30, 2005 to June 30, 2007 with review of effectiveness in raising student achievement for any continuation beyond this period.
- Will increase student achievement by expanding the teachers’ abilities to utilize effective balanced literacy strategies and higher order thinking across the curriculum.
- Will motivate and engage students in active and experiential learning utilizing hands on resources and materials that expand higher order thinking.
The principal will furnish the Pew Fund with a final report that contains a financial statement and a narrative account of program outcomes.
Financial Impact:
The financial impact to the Special Revenue Other Funds Budget is an increase of $60,000 from the Mary and Robert Pew Education Fund Grant. These funds will be received over the next two years and will be appropriated in Belle Glade Elementary School budget.
