New Business - Grants

Title: G1-Education Foundation Grant

Recommendation:

I recommend that the School Board approve the grant from the Education Foundation for the amount of $187,500 effective December 15, 2005 through December 31, 2006.  This grant will provide funding for each high school to tutor students who have taken the FCAT one or more times and not received a passing score of 300 on the reading and/or mathematics sections.

Description:

4    Currently, there are 4,974 high school students who have taken the FCAT and still have not obtained a passing score. 

 

4    Students eligible for tutoring will be high school students who have taken the FCAT one or more times and did not receive the passing score of 300.

 

4    Funding will be provided to each high school for approximately 100 hours of small group tutoring by certified teachers.

 

4    In June, an evaluation will be conducted to measure the impact on FCAT scores for students who have been tutored.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Financial Impact:
The Special Revenue – Other Funds Budget will be increased by $187,500.  There is no financial impact on the Operating Budget.
