Title: AC1-12th Amendment to the Agreement with the Health Care District

Recommendation:

I recommend that the School Board approve the Twelfth Amendment to the agreement with the Health Care District of Palm Beach County for the provision of a half-time nurse educator at the cost of $2,084 per month prorated as needed, effective March 1, 2007 through February 29, 2008, and authorize the Superintendent or designee to sign all documents and contracts related to this partnership agreement.

Description:

The purpose of the Twelfth Amendment to the Agreement  between The School Board of Palm Beach County, Florida and the Health Care District of Palm Beach County is to provide funding for a half-time nurse educator.  The nurse educator position satisfies the goals and objectives of the five-year non-competing Cooperative Agreement, Improving the Health, Education, and Well-being of Young People Through Coordinated School Health Programs from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

This funding is to be transferred from The School District of Palm Beach County to the Health Care District of Palm Beach County.

The Cooperative Agreement, approved by the School Board on November 19, 2002 and awarded to the District in February 2003, provides the nurse educator position to assist with the implementation of the objectives where named in each of the Grant's yearly the workplan.  The current year's objectives would direct the nurse to produce such deliverables as:

      *a list of supplemental best practice teaching activities for the 6th grade adopted Human Growth and
        Development curriculum including HIV/AIDS content,

      * a collection of the newest data and statistics from CDC on HIV and HPV,

      * a power point presentation on human reproduction for teacher staff development,

      * a Blackboard online class with the Grant manager using the human reproduction power point ,

      * a collection of data on adolescent substance abuse related to car accidents and teen pregnancy numbers
         for a project being completed by the Florida DOE, Safe Schools, and the grant,

      * a staff development presentation to grade 4th and 5th teachers on Human Growth and Development
         curriculum.      

Financial Impact:
The financial impact to the Special Revenue-Other Funds budget is $25,008, prorated as needed. The source of funds will be the School Health Program Grant allocated within the Department of K-12 Curriculum, Adult, and Community Education.
