Title: G3-State of Florida Department of Juvenile Justice Office of Prevention and Victim Services Peer Med Recommendation:
I recommend that the School Board accept the State of Florida Department of Juvenile Justice Office of Prevention and Victim Services Delinquency Peer Mediation Program Grant to establish a peer mediation program for the Department of Alternative Education in the amount of $30,000.00 effective July 1, 2007 through June 30, 2008, and authorize the Superintendent or designee to sign all documents and contracts required for implementation of grant activities.
Description: The State of Florida Department of Juvenile Justice Office of Prevention and Victim Services Delinquency Peer Mediation Program Grant will establish a peer mediation-restorative program for 70 at-risk youth from zip code areas 33407, 33415, 33430, and 33404 for one year.
Services will include
*Training in leadership and peer mediation
*Home/School communication and support
*Interpretation/Translation support
*Social skills training, including social influences training
*Parent/Guardian Involvement
*Mentoring and follow-up support to enable youth to remain crime free
Grant management will be provided by the School Administrator and the Department of Alternative Education.
Measurable outcomes focus on the establishment of a peer mediation-restorative justice program for at-risk youth enrolled in Alternative Education and the reduction of referrals for level 1 and 2 offenses among participating youth.
A copy of the grant is on file in the Board Minutes Office for review.
Financial Impact:
The financial impact to the Special Revenue-Other Funds budget will be an increase of $30,000.00 to the FY08 budget. All grant-related expenditures and contracts are authorized for payment in the amount of the revenue.
