Title: CS-1 Consider Approval of the Renewal Application of JFK Medical Center Charter School

Recommendation:

I recommend that the School Board approve the Charter Renewal Application for JFK Medical Center Charter School.

Description:

JFK Medical Center Charter School serves students in grades K-5.  The Charter School opened July 1, 2002.  The five (5) year contract ends June 30, 2007.

The mission of JFK Medical Center Charter School is to provide a work-place public school of choice for the employees of JFK Medical Center, as a natural evolution of their Work/Life balance initiatives.

The application was reviewed by the appropriate District Departments.  The application rated above acceptable, meets the requirements and is recommended for approval.

The School Board's approval of the application merely indicates an agreement to enter into charter negotiations and, if successfully negotiated and approved by the School Board, will result in entering into a charter contract.  The charter shall be the binding agreement, which shall detail all rights and responsibilities of the School Board and the Charter School.

A copy of the application and the evaluation points tabulation sheet are on file in the Board Office for your review.

Financial Impact:

There is no financial impact to the District.
