Title: Law Day

Recommendation:
I recommend the School Board of Palm Beach County adopt the proclamation recognizing May 1, 2007 as Law Day.

Description: Since 1958, May 1 has been the day set aside in our nation to celebrate Law Day. The 2007 theme of "Liberty Under Law: Empowering Youth, Assuring Democracy" addresses the needs of youth and focuses on the issues facing young people.  All youth need to understand their rights and responsibilities under the law to become effective participants in our nation’s civic life. The Law Day 2007 theme prompts all Americans to listen to the voices of young people and consider how the law can better serve their needs and interests. It also encourages us to assure that our youth are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively make their voices heard within our democracy. The Palm Beach County Bar Association provides our schools with legal speakers, conducts mock trials and participates in job shadowing programs, on Law Day and throughout the year.
