Title: G5-Tech Prep Federal Entitlement Grant

Recommendation:
I recommend that the School Board approve the renewal of the Federal Entitlement Grant Application for Tech Prep, through the Florida Department of Education, in the amount of $201,665, effective July 1, 2007 through June 30, 2008, and authorize the Superintendent or designee to sign all documents and contracts related to the grant which are required for implementation of the grant activities.

Description:

The Tech Prep Federal Entitlement Grant is in accordance with the Florida State Plan for Vocational and Federal Regulations that implement the Carl D. Perkins Vocational and Technical Education Act of 1998 (Public Law 105-332).

During the 2007-2008 school year, Tech Prep Entitlement Grant funds will provide:

1. One (1) Career Education Specialist, and one (1) Career Education Website Technician, to implement Tech   Prep and Career Development activities

2. Part-time in-system teachers to assist with curriculum writing and student work site placements

3. Stipends, resources, and materials for Tech Prep Career Contacts at each high school

4. Professional development for the Tech Prep Career Contacts

5. Resources and materials to facilitate the development and continuation of Tech Prep pathways and Articulation Agreements to post-secondary institutions

6. Marketing materials that will focus on promoting Tech Prep pathways for students, parents, and school district staff

The Tech Prep grant will be evaluated on the goals established within the parameters of the grant including the number of qualified participating students, the number of post-secondary transitioning students, and the number of articulation agreements.

Financial Impact:
The financial impact to the FY 2008 Special Revenue-Other funds budget is an increase of $201,665.  The funds will be allocated to the Choice Programs & School Choice/Career Education Department budget.
