The Title X, Education for Homeless Children and Youth Program Grant helps to provide services that facilitate the enrollment, attendance, and success in school of children and youth experiencing homelessness. Services to be provided include:
· Identification of homeless children and youth (which include foster children awaiting placement) through communication with shelters, community agencies, School Based Teams and other school personnel;
· Removal of barriers to school enrollment for homeless children, including coordinating transportation with the Transportation Department;
· Referral to the appropriate social services agencies in order to receive recommended services, including summer camp scholarships to homeless children;
· Homeless awareness training for service personnel;
· Assistance with aftercare and day care services;
· Coordination of health and human services delivered at the homeless shelters; and
· Provision of school supplies and academic materials (FCAT practice).
The grant funds the following services at 12 homeless shelters:
· Academic tutorial;
· Supervision of students while their parents attend parenting classes at the shelters;
· Emergency personal care items; and
· Schools supplies and academic materials (FCAT practice)
