Title: PM1 Bak MSOA Project Modifications Recommendation:
I recommend the School Board ratify Project Modifications in the amount of $544,805.00 for Bak Middle School of the Arts, Modernization Project #2511-8286, and authorize the Chairman and Superintendent to execute all related contract documents.
Description: This project modification contains the following items:
Item #1
- CCD #2 in the amount of $365,509.00.
- Description: Add onsite access drive, parallel to Northshore and Echo Lake, for parent drop-off and pick-up and a bus entrance off of Echo Lake.
- Cause: Outside Agency
- Justification: The City of West Palm Beach and the three neighborhood associations requested that stacking lanes be provided onsite to reduce traffic congestion during parent drop-off and pick-up on Echo Lake and Northshore. They also requested, for safety reasons, that bus traffic be routed away from the park on Haden.
Item #2
- CCD #3 in the amount of $66,480.00.
- Description: Increase the number of student lockers by 486.
- Cause: School District Requested
- Justification: The lockers provided were not sufficient to provide each student with a locker. The Educational Specification provided a total number of square feet to be allocated for lockers and minimum locker sizes. The design met these criteria. It did not specify the number of lockers. The District Design Criteria will be revised to include a statement about the number of lockers required on future projects.
Item #3
- CCD #4 in the amount of $112,816.00
- Description: The onsite access drive required revisions to drainage in the City right-of-way near the entrance to the access road. It also required revising the location of the track, basketball/tennis courts, softball field and baseball field. This required the elevation and location of drainage structures around the playfields to change. It also required increasing the depth of the retention ponds and changing the elevations of associated drainage structures.
- Cause: Outside Agency
- Justification: The City of West Palm Beach and the three neighborhood associations requested that stacking lanes be provided onsite to reduce traffic congestion during parent drop-off and pick-up on Echo Lake and Northshore.
Financial Impact:
The financial impact to the Project's Budget is $544,805.00
The source of funds is Restricted Reserve.
