Title: AC10-Cooperative Agreement with the Habilitation Center for the Handicapped, Inc.

Recommendation:
I recommend that the School Board approve continuation of the cooperative agreement with the Habilitation Center for the Handicapped Inc., in the estimated amount of $46,400 and authorize the Superintendent to sign all documents related to this agreement.  The effective dates of this cooperative agreement are July 1, 2007, through June 30, 2008.

Description:

The purpose of this cooperative agreement is to provide vocational training services for a maximum of 12 students with disabilities, aged 18-22, who have received a special high school diploma.  The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act requires the school district to provide services to students with disabilities who have not received a standard diploma through age 22.

Provision of these services is based on parental request.  Students eligible to receive these services will come from Boca Raton High School, West Boca Community High School, Olympic Heights High School, Spanish River High School, and Atlantic High School.  The students will  have been identified with severe cognitive deficits.  Each participant will be identified by an IEP committee as needing real-life preparation for competitive employment.  Students will receive intensive vocational training. 

The Board will pay for students' vocational training services only those days they are physically present and in attendance at a per diem cost of $32.52 per day.  Students enrolled in the program earn FTE.

District staff will make on site visits at least twice a month to ensure compliance with the students' IEPs and the terms of this Cooperative Agreement. Student progress will be documented quarterly as per the Individual Education Plan (IEP).

This continuing cooperative agreement is in compliance with State Board Rule 6A.6-0361, ": Special Programs for Contractual Arrangements with Non Public Schools".

Financial Impact:
The financial impact to the School District's general operating fund is $ 46,400.00.   The source of funds is the Exceptional Student Education Department budget.
