Title: G12-Contract with the PBC Literacy Coalition for the Adult Ed and Family Literacy - English Literacy

Recommendation:
The financial impact to the District is $12,000. The source of funds is the FY 2008 Adult Education and Family Literacy - English Literacy/Civics Grant budget.  These Workforce Development related grant funds are not part of the K-12 FTE funding.  There is no capital impact.  The funds are budgeted in the K-12 Curriculum, Adult and Community Education Department. 

Description:

Consider approval of a new contract with the Palm Beach County Literacy Coalition in the amount of $12,000 for the period July 1, 2007 to June 30, 2008, pending approval of Adult Education and Family Literacy - English Literacy/Civics Education Grant.

The purpose of this performance contract/agreement with the Palm Beach County Literacy Coalition is to assist the Palm Beach County Literacy Coalition in the expansion of educational services that incorporate English Literacy and Civics Education including Adult ESOL instruction to improve oral communication skills in the workplace. 

This is a performance contract, and the funds will be disseminated only upon achievement of specific objectives outlined in the agreement.  Payment is based on the documentation of student achievement demonstrated on standardized testing, including the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) and the Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment System (CASAS) along with entering employment, retained employment, or placement in post secondary education or training.
