Title: G16-Mary and Robert Pew Public Education Fund for Rosenwald Elementary School

Recommendation:
I recommend that the School Board aprove the Mary and Robet Pew Public Education Grant for Rosenwald Elementary in the amount of $30,000 effective June 1, 2007 through May 30, 2008 and authorize the Superintendent or designee to sign all related documents and contracts which are required for implementation of the grant activities.

Description:

The grant will be assigned to Rosenwald Elementary in the amount of $30,000 to support the increase of science knowledge through literacy.  It will increase student achievement by expanding the teachers' abilities to utilize balanced literacy strategies and higher order thinking across the curriculum.  It will also motivate and engage students in active and experiential learning utilizing hands on resources and materials that expand higher order thinking.

Funds will be used to purchase instructional materials and equipment.  They will be used for a year period with review of effectiveness raising student achievement for any continuation beyond this period.

The principal will furnish the Pew Fund with a final report that contains a financial statement and a narrative account of program outcomes.

Financial Impact:
The financial impact to the district is $30,000.  These funds will be received over a period of one year and will be appropriated in the Rosenwald Elementary School budget.
