Title: G20-Pew Public Education Fund Summer Science Camp for Pine Grove Elementary

Recommendation:
I recommend the approval of the submission of the Pew Public Education Fund Summer Science Camp of $36,000.00 for Pine Grove Elementary and authorize the Superintendent or designee to sign all related documents.

Description:

A grant of $36,000 was awarded from the Board of Trustees of the Mary and Robert Pew Public Education Fund.  The grant is for the period of June 28, 2007 to April 30, 2008.

The objectives of the science camp are to provide students in Grades 3, 4, & 5 meaningful hands-on scientific experiences.

Focus on vocabulary development through scientific methods as it relates to the Sunshine State Standards: Matter, Energy, Force & Motion, Geology & Weather, Living Things, Earth & Space.

To extend yearly knowledge obtained through hands-on exploratory activities.

Field trips to reinforce academic learning in the classroom.

To develop the understanding of the scientific method and the inquiry process of learning in regard to science fair projects. 

Financial Impact:
The financial impact to the Special Revenue - Other Funds Budget is an increase of $36,000.  There is no financial impact to the Operating Budget.
