Title: Jacob Abrams-First Place Florida History Fair

Description: Jacob Abrams, a rising senior at Spanish River High School, has won first place in the Individual Documentary film category of the Florida History Fair.  More than 700 students competed in historical paper, exhibit, documentary, and performance categories.  Jacob's project was a documentary film on the B-17 bomber and its use during World War II.  The rules of the contest specify that the student must produce and edit the work by himself and that it must represent significant historical research.  In his film, Jacob explores the design and building of the bomber, its use in combat, the lives and recollections of its pilots and crewmen, and its role as the product of the toil of thousands of "Rosie the Riveters".  The film features historic film and photos of the B-17 in action, interviews with crew members (including Jacob's grandfather), and original footage shot by Jacob at a recent exhibition of restored World War II era aircraft.
