Title: CC9 A-C Consultant Contracts for Smile Youth Services

Recommendation:
I recommend award of the consultant contracts with Smile Youth Services  for $6,562.50 at Palm Springs Elementary, $4,237.50 at Freedom Shores and $2,100 at Beacon Cove for a total of $12,900 effective September 20, 2007 through January 31, 2008 and authorize the Superintendent and Board Chairman to sign all needed documents.

Description:

CC 9 A and B  Consultant shall perform the following services: CONSULTANT WILL SCORE STUDENT WRITING USING SKILL-BASED RUBRICS AND ANALYZING CLASS TRENDS.  THE REPORTS GENERATED BY CONSULTANT WILL ASSIST TEACHERS IN DETERMINING THE FOCUS FOR INDIVIDUAL STUDENT AND WHOLE GROUP INSTRUCTION AND ASSIST ADMINISTRATORS IN MONITORING TEACHER IMPLEMENTATION OF THE SMILE WRITING PROGRAM.  THE CONSULTANTS OBJECTIVE IS TO INCREASE EACH STUDENT'S WRITING PERFORMANCE AND INCREASE TEACHER PROFICIENCY IN THE TEACHING OF WRITING

CC 9 C  Consultant shall perform the following services: Train the teachers in the implementation of the SMILE writing program 2-4.
