Title: CLS2-Proposal to Obtain Radio license from FCC

Recommendation:
I recommend that the School Board approve the proposal to obtain an FM-frequency radio license from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), and authorize the Superintendent or designee to sign all documents related to the application process for obtaining the FCC radio license.

Opportunity to Acquire FM Radio License for School District

Benefits include:

• 24/7 FM-frequency radio schedule to provide wide variety of programming
• Free access for students, staff and public
• Opportunity to simulcast (i.e., School Board meetings and workshops)
• Broadcast available on all radios with FM access
• Emergency messages can be transmitted from any location

Financial Impact:
The financial impact to the School District is absorbed within the  department budget with funding from the Sprint Settlement Endowment.
