Title: T1 Tri-County Commuter Rail Authority Recommendation:
I recommend that the School Board approve the expenditure for transporting students accepted into magnet programs as outlined in the Agreement between the Tri-County Commuter Rail Authority and the School Board of Palm Beach County.
Description:
- The School Board has utilized Tri-County Commuter Rail Authority since 1990 for student transportation.
- The Agreement allows for students, district-wide, who are accepted for admission to the magnet programs to have access to public transportation to and from school.
- In the 2004/2005 school year, 1400 students used Tri-Rail. In 2005/2006, 1700 students used Tri-Rail.
- An estimated 1800 students commuted to and from school on Tri-Rail daily during the 2006/2007 school year.
- An estimated 1850 students will commute to and from school on Tri-Rail daily during the 2007/2008 school year.
Financial Impact:
The financial impact will be to the general operating budget of Transportation in the amount of $760,000.
