Description:

Approve the purchase of online subscriptions from ProQuest Information & Learning Company.

·       The online subscription service will provide electronic access to SIRS Discoverer, eLibrary Curriculum Edition for High Schools and eLibrary Curriculum Edition for Middle Schools for the purpose of conducting electronic research of more than 2,000 magazines, newspapers, reference books, government documents and TV and radio transcripts that support current events and curriculum materials that can be imported into products (book reports, term papers) and multimedia presentations.

·       The license will provide equality in the access to current periodical resources that can be sorted by relevance, date, reading level / lexile, publication, media type or source.

·       The subscription will provide search options, indexing and full text information for reference and research.  The Standards search option allows educators to retrieve information aligned to the Sunshine State Standards.

·       The term on this subscription license is January 1, 2005 through December 31, 2005.  The cost is $170,125.

·       A copy of the agreement is attached.

Recommendation:

I recommend approval of  the purchase from ProQuest Information & Learning Company and authorize the Superintendent and Board Chairman to sign all needed documents.

Financial Impact:
The financial impact to the District Budget is estimated at $170,125.  The source of funds is the Library Media Categorical Funds.
