Title: Reading Coach and Mathematics Coach Grant

Description:

-The Reading Coach and Mathematics Coach Grant is a one year, discretionary, non-competitive grant authorized by Title I, Part A, No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act of 2001, P.L. 107-110, Section 1003, CFDA #84.010, and Title V, Part A, NCLB Act of 2001, CFDA #84.298A.

-The Reading Coach and Mathematics Coach Grant provides funds to hire reading coaches (unless already funded by Just Read, Florida!) and mathematics coaches in school districts to effectively implement reading instruction validated by scientifically based reading research and mathematics instruction within graded F schools.

- The targeted population is students at schools that received performance grade F in the 2003-2004 school year. 

-Eligible applicants are school districts in the following counties: Broward, Columbia, Dade, Duval, Gadsden, Hillsborough, Jefferson, Madison, Orange, Palm Beach, and Polk.

-Total funding is $65,000 for each reading coach per school and $65,000 for each mathematics coach per school.

- The grant application submitted for Delray Boynton Academy Charter School, Riviera Beach Academy Charter School, and Survivors Charter School of Boynton Beach has been reviewed by the appropriate District staff.

Recommendation:
I recommend that the School Board approve the Florida Department of Education Reading Coach and Mathematics Coach Grant for Delray Boynton Academy Charter School, Riviera Beach Academy Charter School, and Survivors Charter School of Boynton Beach in the amount of $390,000 effective upon award and ending June 30, 2005, and authorize the Superintendent or designee to sign all documents and contracts related to the grant which are required for implementation of the grant activities.

Financial Impact:
The financial impact to the Special Revenue - Other Funds budget is a total increase of $390,000 in the Reading Coach and Mathematics Coach Grant fund subject to 2.91% indirect cost, payable to the District. All grant related expenditures and contracts are authorized for payment up to the amount of the revenue.
