4    The School District of Palm Beach County currently has thirty-five (35) operating Charter Schools and two (2) approved Charter Schools slated to open in August 2005.  This gives the District a total of thirty-seven (37) Charter Schools.

4    Seven (7) applications were submitted for review by the appropriate District departments.  Following the initial review, no applications were withdrawn.  The seven (7) applications rated as acceptable meet minimum requirements and are recommended for approval as follows:

Academy for Creative Education                            Gulfstream Transition Academy
Life Skills Center                                                       Gulfstream L.I.F.E. Academy
Palm Beach Military Academy
Survivors Charter School of Western Palm Beach County/Phoenix Academy
The Children’s House of Montessori

4    The School Board’s approval of the application merely indicates an agreement to enter into charter negotiations and if successfully negotiated and approved by the School Board will result in entering into a charter contract for each school.  The charter shall be the binding agreement which shall detail all rights and responsibilities of the School Board and the Charter School.

4     The Charter School applicants and the School Board shall have six (6) months to negotiate a charter.

4     Due to the voluminous number of pages, copies of the charters are on file in the board minutes office for your review.
