Title: NOVA SOUTHEASTERN AMENDMENT Description: The attached amendment will provide tuition costs and registration fees, using Title I funds, for additional participants. The number of teachers currently participating in this tuition reimbursement program exceeds the original projection. The original agreement provided a means for out-of-field Title I teachers to meet certification requirements by taking appropriate graduate coursework at Nova Southeastern University (NSU).
Currently 206 teachers are enrolled in the NSU program, which includes 66 teachers from the Glades Area and 139 from the AAA Schools. Due to the great response from teachers, the Amendment will allow additional college courses to be offered without limiting the number of classes a teacher can enroll and increases the timeframe for completing the required coursework for certification.
The original agreement authorized the expenditure of $630,000 of Title I funds. The attached amendment will increase the authorization amount by $369,950, for a total expenditure in the Title I budget to $999,950 over the three-year period.
A copy of the Amendment as well as the Original Agreement are on file in the Board Minutes Office.
Recommendation:
I recommend the School Board approve Amendment No. I to the Teacher Training Agreement with Nova Southeastern University (NSU) to increase the amount of the original contract by $369,950.
Financial Impact:
The financial impact to the Special Revenue Funds-Other Budget is an additional $369,950 (total 3-year cost of $999,950). The source of funds is Title I Basic Grant / NCLB / Federal Grants.
