Title: (JJ) - Geospatial Technologies, Inc.

Description:

Approve the expansion of the program with Geospatial Technologies, Inc. for GPS systems, in the amount of $200,000.

·    After a successful pilot testing period, the Transportation Department is expanding the Pupil Transportation System (PTS) and Global Position Tracking System (GPS) programs approved by the Board on January 16, 2002, Agenda Item 13B-3. and expanded January 22, 2003, Agenda Item 13B-10.

·     The expansion of the PTS and GPS Programs provides the necessary additional software licenses for completion of the program to equip all the buses and the implementation and completion of the computerized GPS/Routing program at all bus compounds, including the new east bus compound.

·     The purchase of additional GPS units, with associated hardware, provides the required equipment for all the District’s transportation compounds and school bus fleet.

·     In addition to increased safety and security, the PTS and GPS provide the capability to increase route efficiency optimization, increase accuracy of time keeping, increase accuracy of mileage tracking and lower administrative costs.  The financial impact will be absorbed by reduced bus purchases as a result of improvement in operating efficiency.

Recommendation:

I recommend approval of the expansion of the GPS program with Geospatial Technologies, Inc. in the  amount of $200,000.

Financial Impact:
The financial impact to the Capital Fund Budget is estimated at $200,000 in licenses and hardware to be purchased during the current Five Year Capital Plan.
