The time extension will be from February 24, 2005 until August 25, 2005. This is an extension of the time period from 12 months to 18 months. A budget amendment transfers funds from the scholarship fund to the account for the repair of equipment.
These funds were earmarked for educational programs. A survey was conducted of the high schools concerning the status of their television equipment and projected needs. Based upon this survey, an allocation was made to each school to assist in replacing or purchasing equipment. The coordination of this effort was through the Palm Beach County Film and Television Commission, along with business and industry representation. The Board of County Commissioners is requesting approval for a time extension for the expenditures of the funds by the high schools.
The original allocation was $198,688 and remains the same.
$20,000 was allocated in reserve for repair and replacement of equipment. This item will be amended to $21,453.
$25,000 was allocated for student scholarships at the Palm Beach International Film Festival Student Showcase of Films in April 2004. This will be amended to $23,750.
Funds were distributed to the following high schools: Dreyfoos School of the Arts, Boca Raton, Boynton Beach, Glades Central, Jupiter, Lake Worth, Olympic Heights, Palm Beach Central, Palm Beach Lakes, Royal Palm Beach, Santaluces, South Technical Community High School (before becoming a Conversion Charter School), Suncoast, Wellington and William T. Dwyer. The allocations were made based upon student enrollment in the television production programs and input from the schools.
The school will place the orders for equipment with reimbursement by the Board of County Commissioners.
This program is authorized to continue each year as funds become available from the Film Festival.
Due to the large number of pages, the original agreement is on file in the Board Minutes Office.
