For FY2005, the District established two schedules for submission of school improvement plans because (1) the Florida Department of Education (FDOE) timeline for submission of plans for Schools in School Improvement Status differed from the District’s timeline; (2) a hurricane extension was granted by the FDOE for Schools in School Improvement Status, and (3) a hurricane extension was subsequently granted by the District for the non-Schools in School Improvement Status. The School Board approved the school improvement plans for Schools in School Improvement Status in December 2004.
The remaining school improvement plans are being submitted following the revised timeline. In accordance with Florida statutes, the 2004-2005 School Improvement Plans:
§ have been developed based on a needs assessment that reflects current student achievement data from multiple data sources;
§ include objectives and strategies that are focused on reading, writing, and mathematics achievement targets as specified by the No Child Left Behind Adequate Yearly Progress (NCLB AYP) report per subgroup and graduation rate per subgroup (when applicable);
§ include an objective for science and an objective relating to student health and fitness, parental information on student health and fitness, and indoor environmental air quality;
§ include professional development aligned with the objectives; and
§ have been developed and approved by the School Advisory Council at each school.
Title I schools also address the Title I ten components.
All school plans address training, instructional materials, technology, staffing, student support services, school safety, discipline, and other matters of resource allocation.
School Improvement funds will be used primarily for professional development and procurement of instructional materials.
