Title: (R) - Educational Specification West Technical Ed Center

Description:

1.       The modification of West Technical Educational Center (Project No. 1591-8381) is scheduled to commence 2005 and be completed by 2006 according to the Board-adopted FY 2005 - FY 2009 Five-Year Plan.

 

2.       The modification of West Technical Education Center will house the West Area School of Choice, Lake Shore Annex Transitional School, West Area Office, West Area Office, West Area ESE Administration and West Area Migrant Services.

 

3.       The Florida Department of Education’s database system (EFIS) will be edited to reflect an amended survey recommendation for this project.

 

4.       The educational specification for West Technical Educational Center is consistent with the CSR facility lists and CSR generic educational specifications approved by the Board on November 8, 2004.

 

5.      The “CSR FISH Capacity” of this school design will be 678.

 

6.       The educational specification also reflects the instructional needs of West Area School of Choice and Lake Shore Annex Transitional School programs serving the students.  Additional teaching spaces have been added to the design as allowed by the Charter District Waiver.

 

7.       The existing facilities will be analyzed by the project architect to determine appropriate usage of the site and buildings for necessary renovations, remodeling and/or additions to meet SREF size standards, ADA requirements and other code issues.

 

8.       The educational specification was reviewed and approved by the Principals, Directors and Area Superintendent.

 

9.   As a result of this project the West Area Transportation administrative staff will move into the building vacated by the West Area Office and the West Area maintenance faciity will be relocated adjacent to the West Area Transportation Compound consistent with the recommendation of the Support Facility Study.

 

10.  Construction, electrical and cosmetology programs will remain at the school following the modernization project.

Recommendation:

I recommend the School Board approve the Educational Specification for the modification of West Technical Educational Center to an Ancillary and Alternative Education facility and authorize the Chairman and Superintendent to execute all related contract documents.

Financial Impact:
Financial impact will be determined when construction contract is negotiated.
