Title: (S) - Educational Specification for Westward Elementary School

Description:

1.      The modernization of Westward Elementary (Project No. 0351-7509) is scheduled to commence 2006 and be completed by 2007 according to the Board-adopted FY 2005 - FY 2009 Five-Year Plan.

2.      The educational specification for modernization of Westward Elementary is consistent with the CSR facility lists and CSR Generic Educational Specifications approved by the Board on November 8, 2004.

3.      The “CSR FISH Capacity” of this school design will be 970 and the “Program Capacity” of this school design will be 720 students.  Authorization to design and built to the required "Program Capacity" is in accordance with the Charter School District Waiver granted by the Florida Board of Education on January 21, 2003.

4.      The educational specification also reflects the instructional needs of the existing International Baccalaureate (IB), ESE and ESOL programs serving the students of the school.

5.      The Castaldi analysis identifies two (2) buildings (Bldg 7 & 8) that may be renovated or remodeled.  The existing facilities will be analyzed by the project architect to determine appropriate usage of the site and buildings for necessary renovations, remodeling and additions to meet SREF size standards, ADA requirements and other code issues.

6.      The Educational Specification reflects the use of grade level grouping to enable implementation of the “school-within-a-school” concept.

7.      The Educational Specification was reviewed and approved by the principal.

Recommendation:

I recommend the School Board approve the Educational Specification for the modernization to Westward Elementary School, and authorize the Chairman and Superintendent to execute all related contract documents.

Financial Impact:
