Multisensory Early Language Development (MELD)



                               Multisensory Early Language Development (MELD)


         Multisensory Early Language Development (MELD) is a program designed to address the needs of pre-K
         children who are nonverbal or who have complex communication challenges. The MELD program has three
         major components:


         1. Implementation of language and literacy
         lesson plans that supports core language
         skills and engages students and staff in
         literacy and language activities.
         2. Development and use of core vocabulary
         boards (30-90 core vocabulary words) to
         support acquisition of expressive language
         using various modes of communication.
         3. Ongoing professional development and
         support is provided.

        Central Region Child Find Team



         The Central Region Child Find Team is the recipient of an Innovative Grant from the Florida Education
         Association- Retired.  Innovative grants are awarded annually for projects that enhance efficient and effective
         teaching and student learning.
         The Child Find grant proposal is to educate parents of preschool children about the Child Find process
         by creating an informational video to be shown in the Child Find office waiting room. The video includes
         definitions of commonly used educational terms in family friendly language, plus explanations of the
         evaluation process and the roles of
         diagnosticians during the evaluation.
         The video is produced in English,
         Spanish, Creole, and also includes a
         computer link to send to parents prior to
         a child’s initial appointment.
         The grant award monies will be used
         to purchase production materials and to
         provide parent resources to distribute
         to to families, empowering them to be
         an active participant in the Child Find
         evaluation process.
         Ms. Kay Brown, Representative from
         FEA/CTA Retired, presented the award
         check to the team on 1/23/2020.
